As you’re deep cleaning or upgrading your home this spring, take a look at your fireplace. Does it also need some work? When’s the last time it got updated? If it’s time for a facelift, there’s a variety of options to consider. Here are our top 3 ways to improve a fireplace:

Add or upgrade the mantel.

A fireplace already draws the eye and adds a cozy vibe to any room, but you can continue to add your own flair by upgrading your fireplace’s mantel. No matter the style, a mantel adds more space to use for decor and also makes the room look bigger by decorating up rather than out. Take the Valcourt Lafayette Wood Fireplace, pictured below, as an example. Unlike some fireplaces that extend out from the wall, this fireplace fits perfectly against the wall for a clean look. The wood framing around it acts as the typical outline of a fireplace. It introduces an elegant, modern look, so the room can still have a mantel perfect for adding key décor pieces to the design.

Install new facing materials.

Traditional brick or tile can look outdated if you’ve updated your decor but skipped the fireplace. A fireplace is the focal point of any room, so you want to make sure it fits your aesthetic; a simple fix could be updating the facing materials with stone or steel instead. The Kingsman Cleanview Gas Fireplace, pictured below, is a great example of how the materials you choose for your fireplace sets the tone of the room. Combining the stone facing and wood mantle gives it a modern, rustic aesthetic that can complement many different décor styles.

Consider a new fireplace.

Fireplaces are a great investment because they last a long time if you keep up with their maintenance, but the materials can go out of style. Take a look at your current fireplace: can it be improved or do you need a new model? Another benefit: if you want to completely replace the fireplace, then you can also choose a new type—wood, gas, or electric—if that has been a frustration. In our online shop, you can see the large variety of fireplace styles and types as inspiration. Do any of those fit your interior design vision?
